SKCC is pleased to announce the 32nd SKCC Marathon Award presentation to Mike Maloney, #819C.
Mike logged his first marathon QSO on April 05, 2014 and confirmed his 100th on April 24, 2025. He joined the SKCC on January 22, 2006 and holds SKCC Centurion #12 and now the Marathon Award #32.
Mike began his radio career in 1960 as novice at age 13. He upgraded to General, at age 14, call K5ZFC. He was QRT from 1966 to 1977 during US Navy service, as a radioman, college, and new family duties. He relicensed in 1977 and has been active ever since. Mike's favorite mode is longer CW QSO's using his 1946 Vibroplex Champion (from his birth year).
Mike would like to pass along his thanks to Andy, K0AF, for his encouragement to get an active log toward the award after helping several before him with marathon confirmations.
The Marathon Award was established in 2008 to recognize SKCC members who demonstrate their skill, talent, and love for ragchewing by completing 100 QSOs each with a separate SKCC member lasting 60 minutes or more. The first award occurred in 2014, and now has a total of 32 awardees. Consider joining in the fun and developing your ragchewing skills.
