This is my first submission for
the SKCC and the Brag. I have been having a ton of fun working
traditional straight-key sent CW...even though I'm mostly an Iambic
A/single-lever kind of guy. Whether it's on the air, on the Facebook page, or
on the K3UK "sked" page, the SKCC ops are the best in Amateur
Radio...bar none. Hopefully, by the next submission, I will have worked
enough members for my Centurion Award! |

Big month here, right handed,
had right shoulder rotator repaired so I had to learn to send left
handed. The best in the end was the VizKey Cootie with a straight key
for when i got flustered. Thanks to all the folks I worked on and off
K3Y. I had a great month, radio helped keep me sane through the initial
recovery and I got a 3 watt sweep. If i worked you it was at 3
watts. Thats all I'm running this year. |

Includes 24 "regular"
QSOs, and 34 K3Y/4 QSOs. This was my first year operating K3Y... It was a
blast! Many thanks to all those who work extra hard to make this event
available for us. Special thanks to my region's coordinator Wes W1LIC.
I've worked enough on projects like this to appreciate the constant effort
and general sheepdogging he put in for the days leading up to and during
January |
NW7US - Tomas (309) |
I operated as K3Y/0 during a
good number of shifts. This allowed me a great chance to have QSOs with
many members as well as non-members. Conditions varied, but Morse code
on CW mode made it work. I sure appreciate everyone that made contact
with me. It was exciting, and my final score was a personal best.
Let's hope the rest of the year sees a lot of activity like this... |

BRAG taxed my lack of accounting
skills this month. So many fellow SKCCers on the air, many of whom I had not
heard during the previous 12 months. Many Founding Members, and many brand
new members with numbers over 13,000.
I hope everyone got into the habit of being on the air this month and
continue that habit throughout the year. In February I look forward to making
1x and 2xQRP Contacts with many of you, that's my 2 Dits - Rich - W4RQ |

couple fo trips to work in my Manhattan office...hopefully, the warm weather
will fall upon us here in the Buffalo Metropolitan area, and my numbers in
the Spring will be mostly outdoors operations with my NEW 49'er transceiver
along with the EF antenna courtesy of KA4RUR as well as a SOTA Beams

This has been a slow radio month
here. We are still cleaning up from a major ice storm and spring is
happening. So along with gathering and burning down trees and tree limbs we
are attending the gardens and orchard. Peaches and plums have bloomed, pears are
blooming now and apples have yet to break bud. I have been focusing on
working members that I have not had a QSO with in the past so the vast
majority of my QSO's this month are first time contacts. I would like to make

This has been a pretty good
month, band conditions are beginning to transition into summer condx, so QRN
is picking up significantly. I am assuming the use of the SKCC skimmer is
increasing because I am ending up with pileups on my CQ's. This has never happened
before outside of one of the sprints so that is helping out the count quite a
bit. I have been using the Blue Racer more and more and am getting fairly
comfortable with it in the 17 -21 WPM area, still need a lot more practice to
make life easier for folks on the receiving end. Hope everyone is having fun,

Air
time is starting to get sparse with the arrival of spring. April marked my
first QSO using a sideswiper. I modified an old beat up bug by using a rubber
band to anchor the end of the pendulum arm. All that was left to do was to
adjust the contact spacing ...oh, and practice : ) After I gained
some confidence, I really like it. I don't forsee a sideswiper completely
replacing my bug, but it definitely is a pleasant experience. I suppose I
need to start thinking about a purpose-built sideswiper (any
recommendations?). The nice thing is that I don't have to use the straight
key in the car now. I just use the Begali paddles that are mounted to the
front of my KX3 with the key input set to manual. |

this month were made 5/19 thru 5/26 from EM85KM90, a rented cabin on a ridge
overlooking Maggie Valley, NC where my XYL and I retreated to recuperate
after our hectic weekend in Dayton! We thoroughly enjoyed the Hamfest, and especially
meeting so many of the SKCC folks. It was was great to have a face to face
with Y'all! Definitively, Dayton again
next year ! |

Most of my Brag QSOs this month
were made from my rented condo in Cobbly Nob in the TN Smokies. One of my
QSOs was with brag participant Rich W4RQ, who was operating from his rented
cabin on the other side of the mountain in Maggie Valley, NC (thanks Rich). Really a fun time after the rigors of
Dayton Hamvention. |

Not a lot of SKCC time this
month; one QSO right at the beginning. Most of my CW this month came
from the bug, though. I did have a few skeds with an SKCC member who
was using an iambic (not counted for SKCC credit), and I put in several hours
and >100 QSOs during Field Day (at my local club) using the bug. I'm
hoping to increase the SKCC count in July, but there seems to be a lot of
stuff going on that's getting in the way (storms, needing to operate portable
on HF, DXpedition planning for VK0EK, and more physical activity among
them). I'd love to catch some SKCCers on 6m, especially if they're in a
new grid (which for me is most of them). |

Once again, I have managed to
work no SKCC members whilst using a straight key in June 2015. This
adds to my current score of zero since I obtained my SKCC number. In July I
will be on the Balearic Isles, as EA6/G0DJA/A, or else EA6/G0DJA/P, with a
few Watts to a simple antenna from the hotel or maybe out and about. One day
I hope to work my first SKCC member, whilst I am also using a straight key or
bug. Dave (G0DJA) |

It was a tough month with summer
conditions that tend to hit us especially hard here in Florida. Still a great
month for SKCC fun anyway. I finally have a TGM 2 element mini beam up which
helped me to conact 9J2BO, CN8YR, HP2SM, KL7IDA, OK2BWV, P43R, UU1CC, XE3WMA
and ZL2BLQ this month. Special thanks to everyone who got on 6m again. I made

fun. Good to talk with everyone! |

I am operating under summer
conditions, QRN is high, thunderstorms are frequent and many outside chores
need to be accomplished, all of which mean less time on the air. But in spite
of that I had a fun month, when I can't find an SKCC member in the evening,
I've been chasing DX contacts working on DXCC. If you are looking for a brag
qso with me, I am on the air most mornings 8-9AM EST and evenings after
8:30PM on 7053.5, 7057.5, 14053.5 or 14057.5. Check the CW Clubs RBN for a

Since the holidays, I've had a
rising level of QRN across across the bands that I had thought was a product
of the waning Cycle 24. One day a few days ago, the XYL was gone and I turned-off all the power in the house
(and had my rig on battery back up). Well, just like when you go out
into the country and look up and see stars just blanketing the sky, I
suddenly heard further by thousands of miles in all directions and I realized
that QRN was coming from my property. I've since sussed-out two bad
wall-warts and will be seeking the rest of the offending things adding noise
to the spectrum. That explains the one-way propagation. QRP is
sounding like fun again! 72/73! |

antennas before I put up any more antennas.

He folks - AF4K here; the former
G3XLQ from Cambridge, England. This has been the toughest month in a long
time. I have a new TGM mini beam up at 30 feet which helps a lot. However,
the antennas needed to be disconnected almost every day for extended periods
of time this month. The rainy season in Florida, and summer HF conditions are
both unrelenting forces! That being said - many of you persevered and got
through to me. CW lives! Many thanks to all of my enthusiastic SKKC ops, and
we look forward to a much better month in September and especially October.

Finally got the hang of working
towards the monthly brag. August conditions weren't spectacular but
there was plenty of activity. Also, this month I finally wired my
iambic paddle for cootie keying, though I haven't subjected any of you to my
cootie fist yet. Several times I found I was able to work a needed number or
state on a "dead" band such as 160m, 10m (!), and of course
everyones' favorite "dead band" 15m. On 80m I worked West
Virginia to finish my ARRL 80m Worked All States. This month I also
finished SKCC WAS as well as WAS-C (Iowa was the last needed for the former,
South Dakota was my last state needed for the latter). 72/73 and see

Conditions felt marginally
better than in August. Nonetheless it was still quite a slog. Our

emergency vet and then almost a week at the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital (and
they are fantastic); meaning even less time on the air than I had

fairly regular, and always willing to trade numbers. Met a few new members
this month, and also had some real nice ragchews... which is my favorite CW
activity. |

Not as much time to operate from
the University of California campus club call with all that was going on in
October. November will be much better (it is already) as far as
on-the-air time. 73 and Go Bears! |

much in October as I had hoped, but a good month nonetheless. Thanks all for
the Qs and best of luck in November. |

Made one of my Brag contacts
from my rented condo in the TN Smokies (thanks Hank K1PUG), and a few NAQCC
contacts from there as well. All the rest from my QTH here in NJ.
Thanks to all for keeping this part of the SKCC alive and well. |

I managed to get on the air more
than usual this month, due to a pair of trips to SD around November
Sweepstakes. I also had an antenna up for 80 m, which is a bit
different for me. Some of the QSOs were QRP, too, which was a nice
change of pace from my usual 100 W. All the antennas (160-10 m contest
bands plus 17 m) are now up for the winter in St. Peter, MN, and I hope to
have time to go there and put some RF in them. Between Sweepstakes CW
and CQWW CW, my code proficiency has gone up considerably, and I'm starting
to get comfortable with my bug at speeds above the slowest it will go. Thanks for the QSOs, and I'll see you on
the bands! |

November was a tough month. I
was unable to get on as much but still made a lot of contacts. Many friendly
ops with DUPE QSOs he he. I have no problem at all with that. I'm always
happy to chat with he SKCC gang. Glad some are still venturing onto 20m late
at night for the narrower band openings. I just worked FL to VA on 20m at
0100 UTC. See you all on the air again soon! |

Not many folks responding to the
old CQ so I've been out S&P DX Entities for DXCC award. It is easy to
make contacts but unfortunately many do not QSL via LOTW. The good thing
about chasing DX is that my code speed both sending and receiving has jumped
up quite a bit. |

Merry Christmas to all.
Looking forward to the K3Y activity in January. It is getting a bit more
difficult to log numbers for the awards. Still missing about 8 Senators
to have a sweep of them all. Some disappear off the SKCC sked page soon
after they make the Senator level never to be heard from again! Oh well, I
think I will stop chasing after them when I get 150 S's logged. 73 de

The downward slide continued
this month (hi hi). Oh well, again no surprise since most weekends I
was involved in contests. Hoping to bring it up a bit with the time off
work in December and a slightly new antenna configuration (160m Inverted-L
with an LDG RT-600 remote tuner at the base). |

Had 30 contacts but only 20 were
SKCC. I tried to make one contact a day. Hope I can keep it up
for December. All were QRP @ 5 watts with a G5RV up 35 feet. 'Course
the sprints didn't count for any contacts other than sprints. Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year to all. 72/73, Phil |

Got a couple new capacitors for the power supply, so once I get those in I'll
be able to get on and start working on December brag and Tx2! |

November was a good month for
me. I just started CW in late September, and am ramping up quickly. I made 7
CW QSOs in September, 85 in October, and 141 this month, for a total of 233
so far, of which 209 had SKCC numbers. I have also contacted 48 of 50 states
and about half the Canadian provinces. Not bad for a beginner who still has
to work for a living... The November
WES was my first, but with my /V32, it gave me a distinct edge, and I placed
40 overall and 32nd in my power category with 37 QSOs and 2037 points. It
also pushed me up to Centurion status.
About two weeks later, I reached Tribune status and am working toward
my Tx2. Thanks to all who have helped me reach these levels. I am really
enjoying this hobby! |

This is the club call I
use. Glad to see so many new members joining our ranks; wish they would
get on the SKCC Sked page so we could find them. I did get in a 30min
Rag Chew with a member this month. Maybe I should start working on that award. Merry Christmas to all ops. I expect
to be active in the K3Y January activity. Jerry (K6iii) in NorCal |

Enjoying a few more skcc
ragchews this month, plus a few new numbers. I will likely never get real
focused on brag qso's, but it's nice to keep track and see how many different
members one contacts each month. On that note, I may try for 50 next month, since
I was this close anyway.... ok, maybe I will get a little bit focused. |
